March 2024 Update

Happy March!

We have come a long way since January! We are finishing up the punch list on the east wing. We started in the hallway and apartments on the south wing. New furniture has been put into place. The dreaded dining room chairs have been replaced! The keypad system is in place for security and cameras placed for visibility of the entire house at the front desk. 

Marketing is working on our website and social media pages.  Our goal for Magnolia Place Bainbridge is that the Residents have a home that they are proud to share with family and friends. More improvements to come!

March 2024 Update

Happy March!

We have made some changes to our entry and exit of Magnolia Place Cairo. We will not be giving the code to family, staff, or visitors. We have key fobs for those who visit family members. Please see Mary for your assigned key fob. We are sorry for any inconvenience. However, for the safety of our residents, anyone entering or exiting the building will need assistance from staff.  Please remember and remind others that there is not a resident that is allowed access out of the building without approval from staff. Though we have a locked memory care unit, those residents are in the front of the house for activities and meals at least 3 times a day. We must be vigilant to give the memory care residents a quality of life outside of the locked unit. We can only assure their safety if we have control of the front door. Please call Mary if you are a weekend visitor only and she can make arrangements to provide you with a key fob.

February 2024 Update

Happy February!

We have had a lot of upgrades and changes here at Magnolia Place Cairo in the past month. Shalonda’s activity room now has new flooring. The big activity room that was not in service has a new ceiling. This room will now be transitioned to a new laundry room for the Senior side of the building, extra storage, and a new sitting area for families and residents. We have transitioned Tikia to a new role on the senior side. She is now the full-time housekeeper dedicated to that wing. We have added a huge smart-tv to the living room. We are transitioning to Retirement Home TV for our cable coverage. We have been having a terrible time with the service from Media-com for the last few years. We have upgraded our camera system to a high def system. We have installed a new keypad system in the house and a few extra doors. If you would like a key fob, please ask Mary to assign you a fob. You can still use the code if you wish.

I have a huge announcement! Jay and I have purchased an existing 24 bed personal care home in Bainbridge, Ga. The facility is called Magnolia Place Bainbridge. We offer the same services there as we offer in Cairo. We are currently in the process of changing over systems at that facility from the corporate company. We have retained the director and 10 residents. My days are split between both facilities for a few months. Cairo is my home, and the Cairo facility is my home office. Please share the word with family and friends. We are located behind the boat basin on West College St.

December 2023 Update

Dear residents and families: as you may know, Magnolia Place has a policy that prohibits staff from receiving any tips or gifts from residents throughout the year. The one exception is at Christmas, when residents and families make donations for the purpose of remembering our staff in a special way.

Each year since opening, we have collected donations from residents and families and have supplied a special gift for our dedicated staff members. Again, this year we want to express our appreciation to our staff. I have volunteered to collect these donations this year.

All monies collected will be divided among our Care Staff, Food Service Staff, and Housekeeping Staff. This special gift for the staff members will be a large part of Christmas for their families.

The amount of your gift is certainly up to you, but since many have asked how much to give, I will report that last year, most gifts received were over $150. Please give as your heart desires.

Please give or mail me your gift by December 18 so we can have everything ready to present to our staff members at our annual staff Christmas party. You can make your check out to me or cash.

November 2023 Update

We all made it to the holidays again! Another year of blessings! We wish all a Happy Thanksgiving! As always, residents are welcome to travel over the holidays or take a meal with family outside of Magnolia Place.
If you are a family member and wish to eat Thanksgiving lunch with your resident, we ask that you make a reservation by November 13th. We also ask that the number is limited to 2 guest per resident.

We have made a lot of progress on updating the house in October. There is fresh paint in Senior Living and the “hub” of the house. The gazebo is finished. The house had a fall pressure wash. We had huge mums planted and fresh beautiful red straw. Please come and visit us soon!

October 2023 Update

Happy 25th Anniversary to Magnolia Place this month. Magnolia Place was established by Jerry “Jay” McDaniel III, who grew up in Tallahassee Florida. He is a 7th generation Leon Countian. The McDaniel family was a pioneer family that settled Bradfordville in 1820.  Jay was exposed to Grady County through his father’s love for hunting deer in south Grady County.  After law school and the corporate world, Jay decided at 30 years old to become an entrepreneur. Grady County was very supportive of Jay’s enthusiasm and helped to establish Magnolia Place in our community. We thank you all for trusting Magnolia Place in caring for your families throughout the years.

September 2023 Update

Family, 

Wow! What an August! Hurricane and COVID worrying me to death! As we are rolling into September, we are still vigilant with our infection control and nursing our Residents with COVID. The residents that have been positive are fairing very well. They are just experiencing tiredness. Families are welcome to visit the positive cases if you like. I am not keeping anyone away from family! I ask that you visit, use hand sanitizer, and leave the facility immediately after you leave the apartment.

I need you all to be thinking about a few things. There is an RSV vaccine that will be available from the pharmacist, and he will come here to administer. Please talk with your doctors and let me know if this is a vaccine you would like for your Resident to have administered. Also, I need to know if you want your Resident to have the new COVID vaccine that is coming out the end of September. Immediately, I need to know if you want your Resident to have the high-dose flu vaccine for seniors. Please call or email your wishes about these vaccines. Ya’ll stay safe. We will keep in touch.

August 2023 Update

Happy August!

We have been on the go in July! I can’t keep Shalonda and the residents at home anymore! I purchased a 15-passenger van at the first of the month and they have been burning up the roads ever since! We have moved the location of the Activity Room to the big Nursing office with the French doors. We are waiting on the electricians to finish up the new gazebo and hang new courtyard lights. Ya’ll come see us!

June 2023 Update

Summer is here!

We are starting to knock out a lot of summer projects, so you will be seeing some changes. We are having to replace our pergola this summer. The extreme cold temperature during Christmas killed the vine covering the pergola. We are replacing it with a roof top to match the house. Tony is pressure washing the house, porches, and patios for the second time this year! I have had all the baseboards, door frames, door, and cabinets cleaned in the entire house including the residents’ apartments. The two doors in the sunroom have been replaced and will soon have keypads for entry and exit. The residents will continue activities such as going to the movies, library, and restaurants. The residents that can participate will go to the production of Arabian Nights by the local dance firm this month. We will have our Father’s Day Celebration on the 16th. Invitations were mailed out already. If you didn’t receive one then please call Mary. There are more adventures to have in July!

May 2023 Update

Happy May Everyone!

Magnolia Place is hosting our annual Mother/Daughter/Friend Tea on May 11th at noon. Invitations have been sent through the mail. We posted this event on our Facebook page a couple of weeks ago as a “save the date” announcement. We need volunteers to decorate a table. This was a fun challenge last year. Each volunteer decorates a table with a theme. Use your place settings or ours! We will be serving a light lunch. 

Magnolia Place will be celebrating 25 years in business in October. Be on the lookout for a huge celebration! Please help me spread the word about the Alzheimer’s Support Group on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 10am at the Cairo library.
